Edward Logue is named director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

January 25, 1961

According to Thomas O’Connor, Logue only agreed to take the job after Mayor John Collins met three demands: a $30,000 salary ($10,000 more than the mayor’s), a house on Beacon Hill (on West Cedar Street), and membership in a private club (the Tavern Club). On hearing the last one, Collins reputedly replies, “Are you crazy? I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve never even been invited to those places.”
